The more I talk with managers, executives and the rank and file employees of today’s business culture the more concerned I become regarding the minimal amount of training going on today. Make nor mistake, training people is expensive. It takes time, effort and resources to train people and budgets are tight. Budgets may also be misdirected. If companies want more productivity, and they mean it, then increasing the capabilities of people is the solution. Know more do more. Learn better skills and do better work. Increase capacity to perform and increase productivity.
Invest in people and a business is investing in productivity. Some management experts will point to lack of work ethic or motivation or organizational control as impediments to productivity. These are factors. But the energy and determination driving perfomance go way up when people feel they are given consistent opportunities to get better.
