In our Management by Delegation program, we get into much detail about the importance of delegating through the eyes of the employee.  This seems logical and obvious but I can tell you from long experience that it is not mastered…not even close.  One key skill is to “Delegate Visually”.  You employees must be able to visualize exactly what the assignment or project task looks like.  Successful delegators, who achieve productivity through effective delegation, get very skilled at visualizing what the specific assignment looks like and then communication that Visual Picture so the employee clearly sees what needs to be done.  Here’s what the result looks like, here’s how it should be done and when completed on (date/time) it will look like this, etc.  Think about the assignment Visually and Delegate it to the employee so they can clearly “See” it in their minds eye.
