I can remember the first time 40 some years ago I received a “promotion” to manager. It was very exciting until I figured out that I really didn’t know how! Sure, I had been doing well as an individual producer and had show some interest in leadership but I was not prepared. Over-all these years, it still seems as if there is very little training in preparation for this important responsibility. Quality managers can make a real difference. But how much time and investment is made by companies today in preparing new managers? When are companies going to wake up to how important this is to productivity?
