With moderately to high complexity assignments or Project action steps, the manager would do well to make sure the person receiving the assignment has perspective on where the task fits. Where projects or assignments have multiple complex steps or where there will be a number of people inter-acting on different steps at the same time, putting it all in perspecitve can be very helpful.
At the outset of a project, it is very important for individuals or the entire team to be given a clear summary of the project, its affect on the business unit’s success and the expected outcomes and benefits of the Project. People like to be involved in working on important assignments. To the extent they have the big picture and can connect the dots of their assignment to the Project as a whole, focus and motivation increase. Share the vision and delegate a piece of it to the employee.
