The key question surrounding how to manage by delegation when dealing with a broad range of employee ages, experience is of more concern as the diversity of the work place gets more complicated.  Whether all the research that has been done for generational groups applies to delegating assignments to an individual is my concern.

What is valuable in many of the recommendations about how to approach each Generation, is the more specific concept of dealing with employees at all levels.  No matter what the Generation or the unique characteristics of a given individual, I believe the approach is much the same.  A successful manager needs to recognize and be open to the differences in the needs and abilities of any employee.  We all have different thoughts, different goals, different work values and different work behaviors.  Take the time to find out.  Take the time for meaningful dialogue with the employees on your team.  Then “delegate through the eyes of your employee.”
